Personal Day Advisory 2026
Effective January 1st, 2026, employees will be allocated six sick days and one personal day. While sick day protocols are well-established, personal days operate under distinct guidelines. To utilize a personal day, employees are required to provide a minimum of 72 hours' advance notice to the company.
Once a personal day is selected within a 30-day window of the intended use date, that selection is secured and cannot be superseded by individuals in positions of higher seniority. Within this 30-day period, seniority considerations are suspended. For instance, if an employee wishes to take February 14th off, they would need to formally notify the depot masters of their personal day request on or after January 17th. Once a day is chosen within this 30-day timeframe, seniority is nullified, and the selected day is reserved for the employee.
Conversely, if a personal day is requested outside of the 30-day window (e.g., requesting February 14th on January 2nd), the request remains subject to seniority until the 30-day window commences on January 17th. This distinction between sick days and personal days is crucial for employees to understand.
Additionally, utilizing a personal day will not adversely affect an employee's perfect attendance record. Should an employee become ill and retain a personal day upon their return to work, it will remain available for their use. This option has been introduced due to its inherent advantages.
